Stretch-release foam strips (the Command picture family and honest equivalents) are for smooth paint, glass, tile, and finished wood, inside a temperature band the package states, often about 50°F to 105°F. They hate texture and wallpaper.
Gel and ‘nano’ tapes feel magical on glass and glazed tile. On latex paint they often bond to the paint better than the paint bonded to the primer. People call that a clean look for a month and a white scar afterward. We do not put them on painted drywall.
Putty is reversible-ish and weak. Small damage-free screws and ‘monkey hook’ style wires still pierce the wall. If your standard is no hole, they do not qualify, even if the hole is polite.
